EM3 with $750.000, CS 1.6 and WoW

Electronic Sports League today announces its third edition of Extreme Masters. The third season will stretch across three continents during the season.

Extreme Masters must be counted as the eSports answer to Champinons League. The prestigious league will this season not only more than double their total prize purse, but also replace one game. Do not fear they would remove Counter-Strike 1.6, as it’s once again one of the two official games this season. As you might have guessed, Warcraft 3 gets removed due to it not having a big enough worldwide appeal. Replacing Warcraft 3 will be by World of Warcraft, ESL already had a few test events with the game, latest at DreamHack Winter 2007.

This season, Extreme Masters will consist of three continental leagues; Asia, America and Europe. The best teams and players from each continental league will advance to the global finals at CeBIT 2009 in Hannover, Germany. The season will kick off at Games Convention 2008 in Leipzig, Germany.
ESL states:
The third season of the Intel Extreme Masters unlocks a new level of eSports and entertainment. The Intel Extreme Masters Season III features events on three continents: Asia, America and Europe. The world's best eSport clans will be playing on highest performing Intel Extreme Processors on Alienware Systems from Dell's Gaming group competing for a prize money of 750,000USD. Counter-Strike 1.6 and World of Warcraft are the disciplines.

Last season we saw mousesports taking home the big check and the sparkling trophy. This season will without doubt once again be one of the most important tournaments for teams to win. We will be looking forward to season kickoff in August. HLTV.org will be your home for the entire Extreme Masters III season.
