fnatic and MYM tops G7 Ranking

Last month the G7 Teams unveiled their official open ranking system supporting a Counter-Strike 1.6 ranking for the time being. Now they released the first major update to the position table regarding the past month August.

As a side note, MYM received the points although there was an internal debate as to whether PGS should receive the points or MYM, since MYM failed to qualify through ordinary means. The final decision came down in favour of MYM based on the reasoning that there are no rules currently in place for such situations and the decision would be objective and unfair to discount the points from MYM. Further attention will be put into creating stricter and formal qualification rules for future events.

The G7 Teams strives to improve professionalism and transparency in all areas within Electronic Esports and previously has announced initiatives such as the standardized G7 player contract, prize money dispute system and now the official release of the first version of the Counter-Strike 1.6 ranking system. The G7 Teams strongly believes that to improve transparency, and reward the achievements of teams and players a balanced ranking system is needed. This will enable the comparison, improved reporting and measurement of the world’s Esports teams and players.

zet replaces SpawN at SK.Sweden

German based organisation SK-Gaming announces the signing of Marcus 'zet' Sundström - Counter-Strike legend Abdisamad 'SpawN' Mohamed steps down.

Sundström has been playing Counter-Strike: Source for LA compLexity in the CGS until his contract expired in June this year. He decided not to renew it but move back to Sweden and return to Counter-Strike 1.6.

The Swede replaces the legend Abdisamad 'SpawN' Mohamed who decided to retire from professional Counter-Strike. Mohamed is about to take on a different role in SK-Gaming. The addition of Sundström reunites three players (Dennis 'walle' Wallenberg, Robert 'RobbaN' Dahlström and Sundström) from the old NiP lineup which was extremely successful back in 2006.

SK.Sweden has now time until the end of September to prepare for the Swedish World Cyber Games (WCG) Qualifier taking place at Dreamhack Skellefteå. The winner of the Qualifier will be allowed to represent Sweden at the WCG Grand Finals in Cologne, Germany in November.

"Proud to represent SK-Gaming"
line

"Ever since I stopped playing for compLexity I've only had one thought in my mind, playing with my old team mates from NiP. They have all been playing for SK for a long time now, so for me it was obvious which team I really wanted to join. It is s a great honour to play under SK Gaming, probably the world's most successful multigaming organisation" says Marcus 'zet' Sundström.

Managing Director Andreas 'bds' Thorstensson is "very happy to welcome the prodigy Zet." Sundström is "one of the best players who took a break from 1.6 at his peak to focus on Source in CGS" who is "now back more hungry than ever".

This leaves SK-Gaming with the following lineup:

  • flag Markus 'zet' Sundström
  • flag Jimmy 'allen' Allén
  • flag Dennis 'walle' Wallenberg
  • flag Kristoffer 'Tentpole' Nordlund
  • flag Robert 'RobbaN' Dahlström

Counter-Strike: ESWC 2008 Results Roundup

While most eyes were on the main CS 1.6 tournament this week at ESWC 2008, quite a bit more were watching some of the best matches between top competitors from around the world in a large variety of other games.
The 2008 ESWC Grand Finals at NVISION 08 has completed and once again champions have been crowned in the prestigious event. The ESWC event came to a conclusion with several good finals and an awards ceremony crowning the champions. GotFrag was at the event and an overview of the coverage can be found below :
